Monroe Police

MONROE - On Thursday, April 4:

- Diane L. Griffin, 64, Freeport, was cited for retail theft after officers were dispatched at 11:45 a.m. to Bargains Galore, 127 6th St. Griffin reportedly shoplifted $28 in dog treats and olive oil.

- An employee at Super 8, 500 6th St., reported a disturbance at 4:07 a.m. involving four people staying at the motel. Each of the four people told police a different story about what had happened, and there were cross-complaints of assault. The case is still under investigation. No one was injured, cited or arrested.

- A sexton at Greenwood Cemetery reported at 9 a.m. that an older headstone in the cemetery had been tipped over, causing $150 in damage.

- An injured cat was found in the 800 block of 16th Avenue and turned over to the Green County Humane Society at 10:15 a.m.

- A property owner in the 2000 block of 8th Street was warned at 2:51 p.m. for putting furniture and other bulky waste items out on the curb without tags and not on garbage day.

- A Chihuahua-mix dog with a bleeding tail was found on a porch in the 800 block of 22nd Avenue at 3:48 p.m. and turned over to the Green County Humane Society.

- Several small engines and machine parts were reported stolen from a repair shop in the 200 block of 10th Street at 4:03 p.m.

- A resident in the 1300 block of 10th Street reported at 4:10 p.m. that persons unknown may have taken up residence in the loft of her detached garage. Police did not locate anyone upon arrival.

- A front license plate was reported stolen at 6:16 p.m. in the 1500 block of 11th Street. The screws had been reattached to the license plate holder.

- Police were called to the 100 block of Swiss Court at 8:02 p.m. to investigate the death of a 54-year-old man. No foul play is suspected.

- A 39-year-old man incapacitated by alcohol was taken into custody at Sinner's Saloon, 1428 17th St., after his caregiver reported at 9:12 p.m. that he had been drinking at home and left intoxicated. Police took him to a detox facility in Madison.



Green County Sheriff

MONROE - A 15-year-old boy from rural Monticello was taken into custody and referred to Green County Juvenile Intake after contact with law enforcement late Wednesday, April 3, and in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 4. The boy was dropped off by another teen at Monroe Clinic ER and showed signs of extreme intoxication. He had been drinking somewhere in the Town of New Glarus, though apparently not at a tavern. Clinic staff called deputies to the ER at 11 p.m. The boy was cited for underage drinking and released to his parents, who came to pick him up. On the drive home, the boy became angry and physically violent. The parents pulled over in the N3800 block of County N in Monroe Township and called deputies for help. He was taken into custody and is being referred for charges of battery.



Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON - On Thursday, April 4:

- Daniel Zavaleta Garcia, 22, Darlington, was arrested at 1:15 a.m. on West Milwaukee Street in Argyle on a warrant issued by Iowa County. He was also cited for driving with a suspended license and obstructing an officer. He was taken to the county line and turned over to the custody of the Iowa County Sheriff's Department.

- Jordan S. Ruter, 23, Mineral Point, was cited for speeding at 7:17 p.m. on Wisconsin 23 in Shullsburg Township.

- A deputy responded at 12:25 p.m. to a complaint of a barking dog at a residence on South Galena Street in South Wayne.

- A deputy assisted Darlington police at 2 p.m. with a property dispute case at a residence on County D in Lamont Township.

- A deputy responded at 5:27 p.m. to a residence on County J in Benton for a noise complaint.

- A suspicious person walking along Wis. 11 in Shullsburg Township was reported at 7:37 p.m. A deputy located the person and discovered it was a Shullsburg resident out for a walk.
