Paul W. Ruf, age 75 of Monroe, died Friday, September 4, 2009 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on October 12, 1933 in Browntown; the son of Otto and Ella E. (Broege) Christensen. Paul's biological mother passed away in 1937; Paul was then adopted by Paul and Louise (Grinhaug) Ruf in 1938. He attended and graduated from Monroe High School in 1952. Paul played basketball, football and golf in school. He married Shirley Laeser on October 24, 1954. After graduation, Paul worked as a mechanic and then began a career as a painter. Paul and Shirley managed Turner Hall Bowling Lanes for 25 years but still enjoyed painting during the summer months. Paul was an avid Packer fan. After retiring, he enjoyed making crafts and going to craft fairs. Paul also loved bowling, fishing, hunting and anything involving the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Monroe; 3 daughters: Cynthia Keen of Georgia, Kathleen Hegi of Oshkosh and Sheryl Ruf of Monroe; 2 grandchildren: Nicole Hegi and Jonathan Ruf; brothers, Roger (Betty) Christensen of Janesville and Tom (Gundy) Christensen of Monroe; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard; his adoptive parents, and his biological parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2009 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home.
