MONROE - A local law enforcement effort Saturday to patrol the Sugar River in and south of Albany resulted in numerous arrests.

The Albany Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Green County Sheriff's Department initiated the joint effort after numerous complaints of underage drinking, acts of disorderly conduct, littering and trespassing by people using the Sugar River for recreational purposes.

During the afternoon's patrol, 14 people were cited for underage drinking, one was arrested for operating after revocation, one was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, one person was arrested on an outstanding warrant and five people were cited by the DNR for violations of failure to register a watercraft or failure to have flotation devices in their boats. At least nine people were warned for trespassing on property along the river.

All of the involved agencies want the community to enjoy the Sugar River, Green County Chief Deputy Jeff Skatrud said in a news release, but to act safely and responsibly and respect the rights of the property owners along the river. It is anticipated that more unannounced patrols will occur during the summer.
