Orpha I. Fischer, age 88 of Monticello, WI passed away Monday, June 30, 2008 at New Glarus Home in New Glarus, WI. She was born January 19, 1920 in Adams Township, the daughter of Ole and Inger (Peterson) Berg. Orpha was united in marriage to Andrew Fischer on June 3, 1941 at Yellowstone Lutheran Church Parsonage. She lived and farmed with her husband in Adams township for over twenty-five years before moving to Monticello in 1976. After moving to Monticello, Orpha worked in housekeeping at the Swiss Aire Motel in New Glarus for many years.
Orpha is survived by her children: Walter (Kathy) Fischer of rural Argyle, WI, Mary Ann (Howard) Johnson of Monroe, WI, Karen (Tom) Eyler of Monticello, WI and Sharon (Alex) Abplanalp of Juda, WI; eleven grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren. Orpha was preceded in death by her husband on December 2, 2005; two granddaughters: Katherine Abplanalp and Joanne Fischer; two brothers: Orville and Palmer Berg; three sisters: Alma Tollakson, Thilda Emberson and Mabel Berg.
Orpha was a life long member of Adams Lutheran Church and the Miriam Circle of its Women of the ELCA. Orpha loved her animals and thoroughly enjoyed farming. She enjoyed spending time with her family, feeding her birds, quilting, gardening and making Lefsa. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Adams Lutheran Church with Pastor Mary Gafner of Washington Reformation United Church of Christ of rural Monticello. Burial will be at Adams Lutheran Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2008 from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle.
