Norman G. Battenberg, 80, of Freeport died Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at his home. Born October 15, 1932 in Washington, D.C. he was the son of Norman and Amelia (Bjork) Battenberg. In 1960 he and Lorena Elliott were united in marriage and she preceded him in death in 1990. In February of 1993 he married Linda Mueller. For many years Norm worked as a cheese maker. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1950-1952. His memberships include Monroe VFW and American Legion Post, and the First Free Methodist Church in Freeport. Norm enjoyed vegetable gardening. Surviving are his wife Linda of Freeport, daughter Dorothy (Jeff) Stites of Orangeville, step son James Mueller of Scales Mound, a sister Laura P (Bill) Moore of Lewisburg, PA, a cousin Charles (Rita) Battenberg of Jermyn, PA and six grandchildren Alex and Mitchel Stites, Timothy, Joseph, Leah and Elizabeth Mueller. Preceding him in death were his parents and wife Lorena. Visitation will be Tuesday October 23, 2012 from 4pm until 7pm at First Free Methodist Church Freeport. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Free Methodist Church with Rev. Don Jamerson officiating. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name for the VNA Hospice and First Free Methodist Church.
