Milfred L. Golackson, age 80 of rural Darlington, WI, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born January 17, 1929 in Jordan Center Township in Green County, the son of Golack and Janna (Simonson) Golackson. Milfred was united in marriage to Arliene J. Hanson on June 16, 1956 at Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington. He lived and farmed with his wife in Green County, later farming in Lamont Township. In 1965, they moved to Fayette Township where they farmed until retiring in June of 2001. In 2003, he moved in with his son and daughter-in-law where he has resided since.
Milfred is survived by three children: LuAnn J. (Jerry) Olin of Platteville, WI, William M. (Debbie) Golackson of rural Darlington, and Julie L. (Stephen) Sawyer of Stevens Point, WI; special friend: Larry Conley of Ridgway, WI; eight grandchildren: Jennifer, Joliene, Joseph, and June Olin, Chad, Chelsie, Cori, and Cayla Golackson; and three sisters: Mildred Meier of Argyle, WI, Edna Jackson of Woodford, WI, and Ruth Dorneden of Gratiot, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Arliene on May 24, 2001; one half-sister: Gladys Golackson; three brothers: Harold, George, and Robert; and five half-brothers: Gordon, Bennie, Raymond, Edgar, and Charlie.
Milfred was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Darlington and Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel American Legion Post #214 of Darlington. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and helping them with their school work. Milfred also enjoyed hunting, and could often times be found listening to old time music, and dancing. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1302 Clay Street in Darlington with Rev. Carol Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington where military graveside rites will be accorded by Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel American Legion Post #214.
