JANESVILLE/MONTICELLO - Milford L. Updike, age 87 of Janesville, formerly of Monticello, died June 9, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville.
Milford was born October 13, 1921 in Linksville, Wisconsin, the son of Frank and Minnie (Smith) Updike.
He married Evelyn C. Paulson on February 4, 1945 in Lafayette, County, Wisconsin.
They farmed in Washington Township for several years. Milford also helped the Bruce Company landscape golf courses around the country for 17 years. He later worked part time for Edelweiss Country Club in New Glarus.
He was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello and Wisconsin Laborers Union #464. He loved to fish especially on his Canada trips, quilting, flowers, gardening, and dancing.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia (Jim) Yolda of Warrenton, VA; his son, Danny Updike of Illinois; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his twin brother, Melvin Updike of Janesville; and a sister, Shirley (Bob) Albright of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, on Dec. 7, 1989; his parents; a daughter, Sharon Smith in 2007; four sisters and three brothers.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday June 15, 2009 at the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello with Rev. Lawrence Balleine officiating. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the VOEGELI-NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monticello. A memorial fund has been established for Mercy Hospice at 901 Mineral Point Ave., Janesville, Wisconsin 53548.
