Mary Jane Mings, age 95 of Monroe, died on Monday, May 6, 2013 at her home. She was born on her mother's birthday on June 8, 1917 in Francesville, Indiana, the daughter of Melvin and Margaret (Slenker) Maxwell. She graduated with honors from high school and continued her education at Indiana University in her chosen field of medicine and her dream of being a doctor. This is where Mary Jane and Dwain met.
Mary Jane Slenker and Dwain Edward Mings were married on September 17, 1939 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Jane was very often available to help wherever needed: She was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church, the Monroe Woman's Club, the Monroe School Board, and served on the Monroe Library Board.
After retirement, Mary Jane and Dwain traveled the lower 48 states of the USA and most of Europe.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Melvin.
Visitation will be Friday, May 10, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave. followed by a graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Randy Booth officiating.
