Mary Ellyn (Olson) Engler, 88, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 2nd, 2010 in the love of her home.

Mary was born March 18th, 1922 in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Cyrus and Clara (Skelton) Olson. On May 30th, 1951 she married John "Jack" Engler in Rock Island.

She was a wonderful mom, an unselfish soul, a great friend and a warm smile. According to her nine children she was the Best Mom Ever. Mary passed on her love of books to all of her children and grandchildren; when her eyes failed her, she cherished being read to. She was a prominent member of "the Tasha Tudor Club." She loved visiting with family and friends and gardening. She was a master gardener and cultivated a "Grandma's" garden complete with stepping stones inlaid with her grandchildren's footprints. Mary was a people person and had a rare magical draw to all she encountered. She was a great listener who didn't preach but offered unconditional support. To her children and grandchildren, she passed on the greatest gift of all ... love.

She is survived by her children, William (JoAnne) of Janesville, Stephen of Beloit, Ellen (Sary) Prak of Brooklyn Park, MN, Timothy (Pat) of Beloit, David (Julia) of Orfordville, Margaret Miller of Janesville and Susan of Orangeville, IL; and thirteen wonderful grandchildren: Eric, Emilee, Annie, Lauren, Claire, Nathan, Katelyn, Ella, Olivia, John "Jack", Megan, Rachel and Morgan; two sisters-in-law, Theresa Kimbrel of Beloit, WI, and Rita Olson of San Jose, CA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William of Dallas, TX, her husband and her daughters, Mary Burmeister of Milwaukee and Rachel Roehl of Lewes, Delaware.

Our sincere appreciation to Beloit Regional Hospice for their extensive and personable care and support.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd. Beloit, WI. Private burial will be in Newark Cemetery.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials are requested to Beloit Regional Hospice, Heifer International or Habitat for Humanity.
