Marvin Walter Thoman age 84, of Monticello, WI, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Marvin was born on June 28, 1931 at home, in Washington Township, Monticello, to Walter and Rose (Baertschi) Thoman. Marvin attended Purcell School and married Gloria Zimmerman on November 26, 1950 at the Washington Reformation UCC Church in rural Monticello.
Marvin dairy farmed all of his life, beginning at home. When he was 14, he went to work for neighbors. He and Gloria then farmed together in rural Monticello. He farmed at his present farm, Lone Pine Dairy, for 54 years.
Marvin loved visiting with family and friends. He enjoyed talking about farming and was very involved in all aspects of the farming operation. He also enjoyed driving the gator around with Gloria to survey the crops and cattle and to marvel at the farming operation they built together. He looked forward to day trips to "get parts" and events at the Apparitions' Club House. Marvin was an active, life-long member of the Washington Church, singing and joking in the choir and in the past, serving on Consistory and the building committees. He was a member of the NFO and enjoyed his years with the Green County Harmony Chorus. Marvin touched many lives as was evidenced by the number of visitors he received in the last few months. Marvin's friendly and outspoken personality will be missed by all.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria, two sons, two daughters, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren: Wayne (Pam Flannery) Thoman, Rachel (Jon) Rufer - Jacy and Evan, Hillary (Dennis) Wood - Kaylea, Corrina (Josh) Homulos - Claira, Jerry Flannery; Kathy (John) Reeter, Matthew (Heidi) Reeter - Reese and Rhett, Nicholas (Alyssa) Reeter - Naiya and Judson, Andrew (Angela Rosc) Reeter, Jennifer (Nick Holmes) Reeter; Guy (Wendi) Thoman, Heather Thoman (Brad Hamlin) - Kinlee and Kayah, Adam Thoman, Haylee (Tom) Pendell; and Janis (Ron) Roesslein, Maegan Roesslein - Ava, and Maeci Roesslein; siblings: June Gruenberg, Allen (Shirley) Thoman, Glorianne (Robert) Rufenacht, Dennis (Linda) Thoman, Linda (Dave) Klemm.
