Marsha L. Gempeler, age 67 of Monroe, WI passed away at her home surrounded by those who loved her most after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on April 29, 1950 to Gerald Mayer and Rosetta (Baertschi) Mayer. She attended New Glarus Elementary and Monticello High School. On June 26, 1976, she was united in marriage to Gordon Gempeler in Monroe, WI, where she has resided since. They fostered children for many years.
Marsha reupholstered furniture at the family business, Gempeler's Upholstery and worked at Heavenly Creations, decorating for weddings and special events. She then worked at Colony Brands where she retired on July 22, 2015, after 22 1/2 years. Marsha always kept herself busy baking Christmas cookies, making wood crafts, picture frames and sewing projects. She would often take her projects to craft shows on the weekends. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and especially loved oriental lilies and feeding the birds.
Marsha is survived by her spouse Gordon, son Jeffrey (Laura) of Monroe, mother Rosetta Mayer of Orangeville, special friends Adam Fiorucci and Taylor Yaun along with their children Karl and Clara, of Monroe; six sisters: Sharon Andrews (Jim Briggs) of Orangeville, Kristine Squire of Oshkosh, Diane (Dewey) Curran of Browntown, Michelle (James) Stauffacher of Albany, Rebecca Neuenschwander of Orangeville, Melanie Drake of Monroe; and one brother Tim (Stacy) Mayer of Brodhead, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Gerald Mayer of Monticello; Brother, Edward Mayer of Platteville; Sister, Jacqueline in infancy and Brother-in-law, Paul Squire of Oshkosh.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Pastor Matthew Spoonhour officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Orangeville. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
