Marlene L. Welton (Nee Schwartz) of Mountain, WI, formerly of Monroe, passed away on July 3, 2016 surrounded by her family at Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, SD, after a brief illness.

Marlene was born on February 27, 1955 to Noda (Jacobson) and Alan Schwartz.

Marlene graduated from Monroe High School and UW-Whitewater. She married the love of her life, Phillip Welton on December 31, 1976.

She lived a life of service and leadership, giving of herself and her talents. She was an accomplished seamstress, baker, furniture restorer, and with her husband Phil a dedicated restorer of old homes.

Marlene used her exceptional organizational skills to raise a family, manage businesses, and positively impact countless lives through 26 years of leadership in the Boy Scouts of America. In her last days she was reassigning duties so that the Cub Scout "Dad and Lad" campout event scheduled for early August continues in her absence. (Last year's event drew over 400 participants). She is a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award given for volunteer service to the BSA. She also received a District Award of Merit from Potawatomi Council in Waukesha, WI, her Woodbadge beads in 1994, for the highest level of training available to volunteer members of BSA.

Marlene is survived by her husband Phil of Mountain, WI and Lamberton, MN; Her children Christina Welton of Appleton, WI, Alan Welton of Menominee, MI, and Andrea Welton of Waukesha, WI. Five sisters, Noda Marie Wilke (Steve) Glendale, Ellen Schwartz (Rich Cowan) New Glarus, Theresa Hodnett (Dean) St. Paul, MN, Stacie Meyer (Walter) Madison, and Patricia Brinkmann (Ricky) Winneconne; and four brothers, Claire Schwartz (Barbara Atkinson) Sykesville, MD, Alan (Cheryl) Schwartz, Monroe, Mark (Ann) Schwartz, Watertown and Neal (Cindy) Schwartz, Monroe; twenty nieces, fifteen nephews, many great and great-great nieces and nephews, and scores of Scouts, both adult and youth, who saw her as mentor.

Preceded in death by her infant son Seth and her parents Noda and Al.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016 at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Bakke Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 10th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME 1455 Mansion Dr. and 18th Avenue, in Monroe.

Memorials may be made in Marlene's name to Boy Scouts of Bay Lakes Council in Appleton, WI, to be used in support of Bear Paw Scout Camp, Mountain, WI, and Gardner Dam Scout Camp in White Lake, WI.
