Marie H. Pilz age 97 of Browntown, died Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe. Marie was born April 30, 1916 in Monroe, the daughter of Reubin and Kathryn (Neuenschwander) Kingdon. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1934 and married Samuel F. Pilz on October 24, 1941 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Marie and her husband farmed for many years on the Pilz home farm in Cadiz Township. She owned and operated the South Side Café in Monroe for several years, worked at Structo in Freeport, and for 20 years was employed at Oaktron Industries before retiring in 1977.

She is survived by her son, Keith (Vickie) Pilz of Browntown; two grandchildren, Tracey Laney of South Beloit, IL, and Kent Pilz and fiancée Tami Harding, both of Monticello; a great-granddaughter, Shelbey Puppe of South Beloit, IL; a brother, Colonel R.L. "Jim" Kingdon of Fairfax, VA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Hersel and Robert Kingdon; and three sisters, Grace Keegan, Dorothy Jensen, and Frances Hull.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. Interment will be in Saucerman Cemetery, Cadiz Township followed by a luncheon at the Browntown Civic Center. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Marie's name.
