Marie Beduhn Power

Marie B. Power, of Newnan, GA, passed away August 12, at her home with her family by her side from complications of pulmonary fibrosis. Marie, born November 25, 1928, was the daughter of the late William Charles and Ina Dorothy (Holsen) Beduhn.

Music was Marie's life. She began playing the piano at age 7 and never stopped. She was raised in Two Rivers WI, where she began winning music competitions while in 5th grade.

She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1950 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music. She was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta and Phi Beta sororities. After graduation, she taught music in Lancaster, WI.

She married Perry Johnston Power, III, June 10, 1951, and moved to Monroe. There she started the rural schools music program and later taught piano for 31 years. Marie also directed the Sanctuary Choir at St. John's UCC in Monroe for 15 years as well as the Monroe Swiss Singers and New Glarus Mannechor for 10 years. She directed the mass-choir for the 1976 Sangerfest held in Monroe-one of her fondest memories.

Marie and Perry enjoyed golfing at the Monroe Country Club, where she was Club champion and runner-up different years. She also loved playing Bridge and traveling.

She was a constant source of strength for her husband and children, Sandy and Chip. She continued sharing her musical gifts with many until her death. Marie played the piano to the delight of all who heard her, most recently at Wesley Woods-Newnan where she lived after moving from Venice, FL in 2008 where gave small concerts and played for church many Sundays. Her wonderful spirit will be truly missed.

Marie is survived by her husband Perry J. Power, daughter Sandy and her husband Jim Schlaudecker, Blacksburg, VA, son Perry (Chip) Power and wife Patty, Newnan GA, grandchildren Adam Schlaudecker, Perry (PJ), Taylor, and Zack Power; 6 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great grand children; sisters Jeanne Fergus and Marge (Alfred) Leiser and 3 nephews.

The family respectfully suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Monroe Arts Center Legacy Campaign or the Green County Humane Society.
