Mardell A. Crotty, age 91, died Saturday, October 14, 2017 at her home. She was born on December 27, 1925 in Monroe, the daughter of Walter and Lena (Stuckey) Kummer. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1943. Mardell married Morris J. Crotty on February 10, 1948 in Monroe. She farmed with her husband and later served as the Green County Register of Deeds.
She is a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victors Catholic Church, and was formerly involved with homemakers clubs in Brodhead and Monroe. She had many interests including, quilting, embroidery, gardening, dancing, cooking, baking, traveling, golf, and playing cards. She continued to play cards right up until her last few days. Mardell's number one passion in life was her love for her four daughters and her grandchildren.
She is survived by 4 daughters: Diane ( Richard Anderson) Phillips of Madison, Susan (Steve) Wiegel of Shullsburg, Mary Jo (Eugene Barnes) Crotty of Monroe, WI and Barbara (Rick) Ament of Merrill, WI; a sister Helen (Raymond) Bratzke of Monroe; 4 grandchildren: Stephanie (Nick) Farrey, Rick and Brad Ament, and Sally Wiegel; and 2 great granddaughters, Libby Redfearn and Belle Pole; 2 sister-in-laws: Agnes (Roger) Newton of Cottage Grove and Dorothy Crotty of Janesville; plus nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers: Edward and Charles Kummer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home, with Fr Larry Bakke as celebrant. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. The family wishes to thank Monroe Clinic Hospice for their wonderful care and support. Memorials may be given in Mardell's name to either the Monroe Clinic Hospice or Behring Senior Center.
