Lorraine E. "Lorrie" Aurit, age 89, of Shullsburg, WI, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington, WI. She was born October 16, 1922 in Shullsburg the daughter of Daniel and Mary (O'Brien) Keyes. Lorraine lived in the Shullsburg area all of her life graduating from Shullsburg High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Paul Aurit on October 16, 1943 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Shullsburg. Lorraine farmed with her husband in the Shullsburg area and worked as a caregiver at the Shullsburg Home for 23 years.
Lorraine is survived by eight children: Jan (Bill) Guymon of Roscoe, IL, John Aurit of Marseilles, IL, Kathleen (Rick) Modica of Pearl City, IL, Mary Beth (Dean) Hendrickson of Rockford, IL, Sue (Ron) Wiegel of Shullsburg, JoAnn (Stan) Sherman of Springfield, IL, Theresa (Jim) DiTulio of Macomb, IL, Angie (Jonathan) Alexander of Eau Claire, WI, and Sandy Aurit of Galena, IL; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a special niece: Amy Speth of Hazel Green, WI; one brother: John R. "Bud" Keyes of Monona, WI; and three sisters: Lois Goc of Omaha, NE, Mary Keyes of Watertown, WI, and Anna Vosberg of Platteville, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Paul on October 2, 1999; one son-in-law: Mike Kaiser in 1988; and four brothers: Joe, Gene "Killer", Daniel, and Francis "Art" Keyes.
Lorraine was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, its Council of Catholic Women, Catholic Daughters, Legion of Mary, and St. Vincent De Paul Society. She was an avid crossword puzzle solver, and Euchre and Solitaire player. Lorraine enjoyed listening to music, baking, and remaining active in current events. She was quite a historian. Lorraine's family will always remember her for living her faith and the unconditional love and compassion she had for everyone.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 344 North Judgement Street in Shullsburg with Rev. John Bosco Pudhota officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery in rural Shullsburg. A visitation will be held Friday, May 11, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at O'Flahrity-Erickson Funeral Home, 235 North Judgement Street in Shullsburg, where a rosary service will be held at 4:00 p.m. A visitation will also be held Saturday, May 12, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
