BELOIT - Lester E. Witt, age 97, of Beloit, formerly of Brodhead, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009, at his home. He was born on March 30, 1912 in Monticello, WI, the son of William and Ida (Sellnow) Lentz Witt. He married Violet A. Hansen on December 26, 1940 in Dubuque, IA. She passed away on May 28, 1992.

Lester had farmed, was a milk truck driver, a personal chauffeur for Ford Motor Co., Jacksonville, FL, a machinist at Yates American Machine of Beloit and Roscoe and Louis Vigh Machine Co. of Beloit. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, inducted on November 16, 1942 and honorably discharged on September 7, 1943. He was a member of American Legion Swan-Gehr Post 195, Brodhead. He also loved the Packers, the Badgers and the Brewers.

He is survived by three sons, Dale Witt, Dean (Brenda) Witt, Denis Witt, all of Beloit; and a daughter, Lois (Roger) Elliott, Chippewa Falls, WI; six grandchildren, Bethany Whalen, Daniel Elliott, Melissa, Christine, Michelle, and Stephanie Witt; seven great-grandchildren, Madyson and Emma Whalen, Tayanna and Kyaira King, Jordan Witt, Silas Rowe, and Alaina Wilder. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother, Merlin, and a sister, Mildred Austin.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead, with Pastor Larry Froemming officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD. A memorial fund will be established.
