Lamont M. Zimmerman, age 83 of Monroe, formerly of Brodhead and Juda, died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at his home.

Lamont was born March 5, 1925 in Orangeville, IL, the son of Myron and Faye (Miller) Zimmerman. He graduated from Juda High School in 1942 and married Georgia M. Pick on February 9, 1947 in Monroe.

He farmed in Juda most of his life until moving to Brodhead in 1978. Lamont operated Brodhead Farm Supplies for many years and was employed by Olin Oil until 2007.

He attended the Zion United Methodist Church of Juda, was a former member of Kiwanis Golden K of Brodhead, Monroe Kiwanis Club, past president of the Jefferson Town Board, Green County Board of Supervisors, Brodhead City Council, Brodhead Revitalization Committee, and past president of the Brodhead Retail Assoc.

Lamont received the Brodhead Jaycee Distinguished Service Award in 1982 and along with his wife the Chamber of Commerce C.S. Pierce award in 1990. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, bowling, playing pool, traveling, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Lamont had a passion for his family, farming, and talking with people.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia Zimmerman of Monroe; four children, Dennis (Adriana) Zimmerman of Pekin, IL, Ann (Fred) Kloepping of Juda, Jane (Greg) Menne of Allen, TX, and Julie (Jim) Jaeggi of Monroe; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hollis (Ed) Smith of Estes Park, CO and Joyce Theiler of Juda; a brother, Robert (Carole) Zimmerman of Monroe; a sister-in-law, Lois Ackerman of Monroe; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Daryl Zimmerman; and a brother-in-law, Tom Theiler.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2008, at the Zion United Methodist Church in Juda with Rev. Thomas Miller officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at a luncheon in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Lamont's name.
