BELMONT TOWNSHIP - The man who died Sunday after he went missing while swimming at Lake Joy was identified Monday as Derek V. Riemenapp, 23, Shullsburg.
Riemenapp was reported missing at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday. He was swimming in a designated area of Lake Joy.
According to Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley, the department's boat, equipped with water rescue and dragging equipment, was deployed to the lake. The Grant County Dive Team also responded.
Riemenapp's body was located at about 8:40 p.m. in about 7 feet of water. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Lafayette County Coroner Virginia Douglas.
Pedley said this is the third drowning in the lake in the 25 years. The last drowning at the lake was in August, 1990.
The Belmont Fire Department, Belmont Ambulance and the Belmont Police Department assisted.
