Kenneth L. Thompson, 72, of rural Freeport died Monday February 13, 2012 at his home. Born May 14, 1939 in Mt. Carroll he was the son of Glenn and Bertha (Kruse) Thompson. He and Virginia Ege were married on April 30, 1967 for 24 years. Ken was a Veteran of the United States Army and held many jobs, including Burgess Battery, Surge, Crandel, Tri-County Dairy, Dura Automotive and Thompson's Dairy Equipment which he owned and operated for 37 yrs. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Other hobbies included anything associated with farming, spending time in his yard, gardening and hunting. Surviving are his mother Bertha of Cedarville; one daughter Tonya (Tracy) Kaiser of Lena; two sons Mick (Lori) Thompson of Clarendon Hills, Hank (Jill Story) Thompson of Lena; 7 grandchildren Chelsey and Kenzie Kaiser of Lena, Faith, Christian and Grace Thompson of Clarendon Hills, Geoffrey and Curtis of Lena; brother LaVerne (Ingrid) Thompson of Freeport; sister LaVonne (Ken) Wagenkneckt of Freeport, sister-in-law Nancy Thompson of Cedarville, several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his father, one son Derek, brother William and two infant brothers. Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary. Funeral service will be 10:30 am Saturday at Walker Mortuary with Rev. Dr. Burliss Parker of First Church of Open Bible officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name for FFA and others to be determined.
