Kenneth J. Blumer, age 92 of Albany, died Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Mercy Hospital. He was born on January 17, 1924 in Mt. Pleasant Township, Green County, the son of Joseph and Sarah (Rhyner) Blumer. He attended Fairview Country School. Kenneth married June E. Qualley on October 25, 1946 in Albany. Ken started out farming then he owned his own milk route. He then went to work at General Motors in Janesville, where he worked for 23 years on 2nd Shift. During those 23 years Ken had his own business picking up cream at Green County cheese factories. After Ken retired from G.M. in 1989 he went to work for Kranig Excavating for 17 years, retiring at the age of 82. He was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, a member of U.A. W. local #95. Ken also enjoyed making wine, and enjoyed looking at old cars and tractors.
He is survived by his wife, June of 69 years; 2 children: Larry Blumer and Julene (Scott) Elmer both of Albany. 6 grandchildren: James (Michelle) Blumer of Milton, Sharyl (Ralph) Reinheimer of Eden Prairie, MN, Kari (Jeff) Stockton of Rockton, IL, Kevin (Jennifer) Blumer of Milton, Andrew Elmer and Michael (Kayla) Elmer, both of Albany; 6 great grandchildren: Kassi, Dillan, Morgan, Lauren, Jaren and Liam; a sister, Dolores (Bob) Schumacker of Evansville. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Clarence and Burnett; a sister, Gladys Schneeberger.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, October 3, 2016 at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello, with Reverend Lance Smith officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Albany. A visitation will be held Sunday, October 2 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello.
