Katherine M. Schuetz, age 99, of Monroe, WI died on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe. She was born on February 27, 1918 in Muscatine, IA; the daughter of Gottfried and Eda (Binggeli) Laeser.
Katherine married Walter Otto Schuetz on February 22, 1953 at St Johns UCC in Monroe, WI. Katherine and Walter owned and operated a farm west of Monroe where they started their family. For almost 10 years, they farmed and raised their girls until Walter passed away on January 20, 1963. Katherine then moved to and raised their girls in town. She has resided at Monroe Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the past 9 years.
Katherine enjoyed many jobs throughout her life. As a young woman she worked at the Muscatine Pearl Works in Muscatine, IA. In Monroe, she worked for Rosa's Florist, Schultz Pharmacy, and St Clare Hospital; though her favorite occupation was farmer/homemaker. She enjoyed baking, gardening, playing cards, and knitting. A tree trimmer who had worked at the farm remembered her delicious homemade pies 30 years later.
She is survived by her children, Deanna (Bruce) Gutknecht of Glen Haven, WI, Donna (John Sage) Schuetz of Oak Harbor, WA; 4 grandchildren, Greg (Ryan) Gutknecht, Garrett (Leah) Gutknecht, Brian (Allison) Gutknecht, Hannah (Hunter) Kussmaul; 7 great-grandchildren, Brandon Gutknecht, Gretchen and Rett Gutknecht, Alyssa and Ayden Ubersox, Preston and Myla Ray, plus one on the way; sister, Esther Westbrook of Moline, IL; brothers, John and Robert Laeser of Muscatine, IA; brother-in-law Albert (Ena) Schuetz of Monroe, WI; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband, Walter, sisters, Elsie (Paul) Irwin, Gertrude (Ben) Westbrook, brothers, Gottfried Laeser, Jr., LeRoy (Lois) Laeser; in-laws, Jacob (Elise) Schuetz; brothers-in-law, Bill (Edna) Schuetz, Jacob (Edna) Schuetz, Thomas (Ida) Schuetz; sisters-in-law, Lillian (Joseph) Gmur, Clara (Arnold) Albright, and Helen Schuetz.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 28, 2017 at 12:00 noon at St Johns UCC in Monroe, WI, with Rev Kathleen Rinear officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, in Monroe.
Visitation will be on Friday, from 10:30am until the time of service, at the church.
