John L. King, age 87 of Albany, Wisconsin, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born April 4, 1921 in Decatur township; the son of Wallace and Rossie (Brace) King. He served in World War II from 1942 to 1945, spending most of the time serving in Panama.

John King and Virginia Johnson were married at Albany Lutheran Church on January 4, 1948 and they farmed in Decatur Township for 61 years. John worked for Luedy Livestock, Krueger Construction, and Kranig Excavating besides farming. John was a member of Albany Lutheran Church where he served as past president of the church council. He was a member, and past commander of McDermott-Steindorf American Legion Post #144. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and his family.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia King of Albany; daughter, Sharon (Harry) Pryce of Brodhead; sons, Alan (Janice) King of Brodhead and David (Janis) King of Albany; 6 grandchildren: Craig (Amy) King of Brodhead, Allyson (Pat) Dwyer of Evansville, Jennifer Pryce of Barneveld, Adam King of Monroe, Aaron King of Cottage Grove and Arik King of Albany; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 9 siblings and 2 grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at ALBANY LUTHERAN CHURCH with Pastor Bob Vetter officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery at Albany, WI.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

A memorial fund is being established in John's memory.
