Mr. John A. Heimann, age 88, of Waunakee, former New Glarus resident, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Meriter Hospital, Madison.
He was born June 23, 1920 in Belleville, the son of Andrew and Agnes (Schiller) Heimann. John attended country school in the Belleville area. He enlisted in the US Army on September 9, 1941 and was discharged on November 26, 1945. He served with the 1024th Signal Company in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. John was awarded a Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon and the American Theater Service Ribbon. He was a member of the Stuessy-Kuenzi American Legion Post and the VFW.
On February 24, 1943, he was united in marriage to Virginia Marty at March Field, CA. Virginia passed away on December 2, 1983.
John had worked at Pet Milk Company before entering service and after service worked for Mt. Vernon Telephone (now TDS) until retiring in 1985.
On January 19, 1985 he married Jean Schneider at Belleville.
Survivors include: his wife, Jean Heimann of Madison and his family: Paul (Connie) Heimann of Juda, Mary (Charlie Esser) Heimann of Madison, Robert (Susan) Schneider of Middleton, Rhonda Anderson of Madison, Paul (Deb) Schneider of Hartland, and Scott (Kay) Schneider of Sun Prairie and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicky in 2007; his first wife, Virginia; his parents, Andrew and Agnes Heimann; three brothers, Max, Fred, Conrad; and two sisters, Clara Lehman and Elizabeth Pernot.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary of the Lake Parish, 5440 Mary Lake Rd., Waunakee, WI. The Rev. Msgr. James L. Gunn officiating with burial at 2 p.m. in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus.
Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the St. Mary of the Lake Parish on Tuesday.
