Jean "Jeanie" Woolever of Monroe entered eternal life on Monday, October 21, 2013 at the age of 94.
There once was a pretty girl with red curls, who loved kicking-up her heels on the dance floor. She was a sweet, fun, and feisty spirit who enjoyed bowling, poker and pot-lucks, tending to her potted flowers, and caring for her family and friends. She loved the Green Bay Packers, baseball, and never met a dessert she didn't like.
She was a Girl Scout leader and long time member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary (62 years). Jean loved working at the Monroe Clinic and retired in June, 1986 with over 30 years of service. She was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church.
Jean was born December 5, 1918 in St. Paul, MN, to Fred and Freda Hammond. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1937. She married Monte Woolever in Shell Lake, WI in 1940. They had one daughter, Karen, in 1943 before divorcing in 1954. Jean was a very dedicated single mother for over 10 years.
Jean will be missed by her daughter, Karen (Jack) Greenspan of New Glarus; two grandchildren, Brian (Deanna) Carter, Washington, and Kelli Jean Carter, Oregon; two great-grandsons, Grant and Andrew Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jack Hammond of Menomonie, WI.
The family would like to express their appreciation and extend a thank you to the Pleasant View Nursing Home staff who assisted in Jean's care through the challenges of Alzheimer's disease (for 15 years) and the Monroe Clinic Hospice who assisted her during the last months of her life.
