Janet (Stuessy) Plourde, age 76, of Platteville passed away Thursday, September 3, 2009.

She was born on December 3, 1932 in Lafayette County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Dr. Milton and Susan (Willis) Stuessy. Janet earned a degree from the Platteville Teachers College and in 1968 earned a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis on English from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She taught English at Evansville High School for 24 years until her retirement. It was always her goal to instill an understanding and appreciation of language and literature in her students. It was her hope it would make a difference in their lives.

Janet was a very kind, caring person and dedicated to helping others. She believed that her children and their families were the most significant part of her life. She was a voracious reader and crossword puzzler. She enjoyed travel, car rides on country back roads, music and singing. During her retirement Janet began playing the piano and composing songs for children. She was proud to have become a published songwriter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; two brothers, George Stuessy, Dr. Milton Stuessy; brothers-in-law, Bill Plourde, Richard Plourde; sister-in-law, Patsy Plourde.

Janet is survived by her two children: Jim (Laurie) Plourde, Monroe, WI; Sue (Ed) Ambrose, Inver Grove Heights, MN; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Carol Stuessy and Patricia Stuessy, both of Platteville and Joy Plourde of Bloomington, MN; brother-in-law, Robert Plourde of Platteville; and many caring nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on September 26, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Platteville, WI. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home is assisting the family. Memorials preferred to Southwest Health Center of Platteville.
