MONROE - James "Jim" Hendrickson, age 84, of Monroe, died on Sunday, October 31st 2010 at the Monroe Manor. He was born on August 3rd, 1926 the son of Howard and Viola (Olson) Hendrickson. After graduating from Blanchardville High School, he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served on an LST(landing ship, tank) in the Philippines, participated in the invasion of Okinawa, and the surrender of Truk Island. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Jim and Gloria were married on August 17th 1947, in Blanchardville. He graduated from Madison Business College in 1948. He then worked for many years at Gempler Tire and then at Oaktron Industries before retiring in 1999. Jim was a member of the Monroe V.F.W. Post 2312 and the USS LST Association. Jim enjoyed golf and was an excellent golfer. In the 1960's he participated in a pro-am golf tournament in Las Vegas. He was also an avid history buff and read extensively about history and current events.

He is survived by his wife Gloria; sons Gregory (Mary Jo), Gary (Jennifer), and Jim J. Hendrickson, all of Monroe; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister Ruth Benson of Aurora, IL. He is predeceased by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 7th, 2010 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. until time of service. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
