BURLINGTON - Jack Marlin Erb, age 73, of Burlington, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born Aug. 11, 1935 in DeKalb, IL, to Charles Edward and Addie Erma (Nee Darnell) Erb. He was married to his first wife Lois Edmison on May 28, 1955. He served in the US Navy "Sea Bees" from 1955-1958 in California, the Philippines and Guam. He was united in marriage to Mary Louise Modrak on March 9, 1974 at Plymouth Congregational Church in Burlington.

Jack retired from Nestle Foods in Burlington, where he had been a machinist for 29 1/2 years, and past treasurer and president of the International Association of Machinists local. His memberships included, American Gold Wing Association of North American, North America Hunting Club, National Rifle Association, treasurer of Buck Trail Archers, Burlington C.A.R.S. Car Club and Badgerland Touring Club. He enjoyed racing stock cars and snowmobiles, and driving anything that went fast. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba driving, motorcycling, archery and classic cars. He was a storyteller extraordinaire, and had an endless repertoire of jokes. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Erb of Burlington; sons, Joe (Laurie) Britton of Johnsburg, IL, Bill (Karen) Erb of Silver Lake, Mike (Karen Ledbetter) Erb of Bossier City, LA, Mark (Jody Goldbeck) Modrak of Burlington, Bob (Wendy) Erb of Monroe, WI; daughters, Brenda (Dirk Jager) Wiemer of Burlington, Jackie Lynn (Ron) Boutan of Burlington; 19 grandchildren, Jason, Ian, Abby, Mellissa, Aimee, Frank, Erin, Mandy, Brett, Avery, Ellis, Kyle, Troy, Kolby, Hoss, Colt, Buck, Angie, Dusty; 12 great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Katelyn, Jack, Anna, Ava, Elizabeth, Simon, Cody, Liam, Zoey, Aubrey, Cheyenne; sister, Janet (Michael) Maretti of Marengo, IL; sisters-in-law, Marian and Barbara; ex-wife, Lois; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is further survived by his loyal pet, Archie "The Wiener Dog." He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, James, Edward, Robert, John and Howie; and two sisters, Helen and Shirley; and a son, John Martin Erb.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, with Rev. Richard Blodgett officiating. Burial will take place at Burlington Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed to the Union Grove Veterans Assisted Living Center.
