Helen E. Altmann, age 98, of Monroe died on Friday, April 1, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 21, 1912, in Cadiz Township, the daughter of Emil and Anna (Blumer) Geissberger. She attended the Green Valley country school. Helen and William L. Altmann were married on November 15, 1932 at St. John's United Church of Christ. She farmed with her husband and raised her family in Monroe Township. She was a member of the G.U.G.G., the Happy Hour Home Makers, Last Monday Card Club, Monroe Garden Club, and Women of the Moose Chapter #599. Helen enjoyed tending and raising her flowers, reading search word, playing cards and participating in Moose Lodge events. But most of all Helen loved spending time with her family, watching her grandchildren grow and spoiling her great-grandchildren, and her great-grandson.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine H. Henning of Monroe; son, Harley W. (Nancy) Altmann of Monroe; grandchildren, Malinda (Leo) Happ, Justin (Ruth) Altmann, Henrietta (Dudley) Timm; great grandchildren, Alicia (Silas) Estudillo, Brandy Happ, Misty Happ, Coldan Altmann, Scott, Cory, and Eric Timm; great great grandson, Ismael Estudillo. She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband William.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, with Pastor Lowell Stuessy officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home, with the Women of the Moose service at 7:00 P.M.
