Harvey W. Disch, age 67 of Albany, formerly of Monticello, died Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at his home.
He was born August 11, 1941 in Monroe, the son of Willis J. and Ilene V. (Vine) Disch. He attended Monticello High School before entering the U.S. Marine Corp on September 25, 1958. Harvey served in Vietnam earning various commendations including the Vietnamese Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on December 15, 1967.
Harvey and Diane J. Hoesly were married on October 24, 1964 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe. Following their marriage Harvey worked as a mechanic and farmed for several years. He owned and operated his own milk trucking business from 1985 until retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello and the Monroe V.F.W. Post #2312. Harvey enjoyed family gatherings, camping, hunting, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Disch of Albany; four children, Harvey Disch Jr. of Albany, Tina Disch of Freeport, IL, Timothy Disch of Monticello, and Matthew Disch of Monroe; three grandchildren, Kenneth Pratt, Arron Pratt, and Hannah Disch; and a sister, Pauline Gates of Edmund, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alberta Truttmann in 2007; a brother-in-law, Daren Gates; and a nephew, Russell Truttmann.
Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at 11 a.m., at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Rev. Lawrence Balleine officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. A visitation will be held at the VOEGELI-NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monticello on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Harvey's name.
