Harold A. Hartwig, age 93, of Monroe, died on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at his home, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on April 12, 1920 the son of George J. and Ella (Kundert) Hartwig.
Harold and Bertha Schiess were married on February 6, 1944 at St. John's United Church of Christ. They farmed in Monroe and Cadiz townships, from 1944-1980 until retirement. After retirement they resided in Monroe.
Harold was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe and Green County Farm Bureau. Harold enjoyed following sporting events. He was an avid Cubs Fan since childhood, and a Green Bay Packers Fan. Family and farm were his top priorities. He was an honest man, who could be counted on for a word of encouragement, and a helping hand. He instilled in his children the importance of honesty and a strong work ethic. His life was well-lived and was filled with intangible accomplishments.
He is survived by his children: Eugene A. Hartwig of Monroe; and Diane K. Roberts of Rochester Hills, MI. Also surviving are brothers, Leland (Arlene) Hartwig and William (Marilyn) Hartwig both of Monroe; a sister-in-law, Betty Hartwig of Monroe; a brother-in-law, Herman Blum of Milton; and a friend and longtime caregiver, Tina Fowler.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Bertha; brother, Robert and sister, Mildred Blum.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Avenue with Rev. Tiff Bates officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home until time of service.
