BELLEVILLE - Glenys James Austin, age 93, passed away at his home in Belleville, WI on Sunday, February 3, 2008. He was born on April 27, 1914 to Henry and Clara (Tyvand) Austin in the Town of Primrose. Glenys was baptized and confirmed in the Primrose Lutheran Church. He graduated from the Belleville High School in 1932. Glenys farmed with his father after high school in the summer and he did crop farming in Florida with Walter Peterson in the winter. He was united in marriage to Belva Rear on March 26, 1938 at the Adams Lutheran Church, Argyle. They farmed in Primrose until his retirement in 1968. He then worked as a carpenter and built the home in Primrose where Glenys and Belva lived for 36 years. They moved to Belleville in 2004.
Glenys was a lifetime member of the Primrose Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and the building committee. He also served as treasurer and was a board member for the Primrose Cemetery Association. He sat on the board for the Harker School in Town of Primrose. Glenys and Belva enjoyed traveling in their RV especially for the annual Florida pilgrimage for 31 winters. Glenys also enjoyed euchre and coffee hour at Borland's. Glenys along with his wife were leaders of the Primrose 4-H Club for 17 years. He belonged to the Oregon Bell Ringers and Good Sam Club. Glenys enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, photography, and basket weaving.
Glenys is survived by his wife of 69 years, Belva of Belleville; a son, Donald (Mary) Austin of Belleville; two daughters, Beverly (Robert) Flanagan of Belleville and Jean Austin of Madison; a son-in-law, Dennis Bahr of Middleton; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; and a sister-in-law, Esther Austin of New Glarus, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Corrine Bahr in 2007; sisters, Agnes Lingard and Hilda Best; three brothers, Amos, Curtis, and Harland; and a great-granddaughter, Brittany Reuter.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the Primrose Lutheran Church, 8770 Ridge Dr., Belleville, WI. The Pastor George Carlson officiating with burial in the Primrose East Cemetery.
