Gary L. Thoreson and Chloe A. Thoreson

Gary L. Thoreson, age 70, and Chloe A. Thoreson, age 66, both of rural South Wayne, WI, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at their home. Gary grew up in rural South Wayne on the family farm, the son of Orville A. and Odelia P. (Larson) Thoreson. He graduated from Black Hawk High School in 1960. Gary served in the Army National Guard. Chloe grew up in Monona, WI, the daughter of Martin and Theresa (Brey) Shimniok. She graduated from Monona High School in 1965. Gary and Chloe were married October 14, 1972 at East Wiota Lutheran Church. They farmed in partnership with his brothers, Everett and Dean, on the family farm in rural South Wayne. They began Dairy farming and later raised purebred hogs, which they sold nationwide. Gary was most likely the first computer programmer in Lafayette County and wrote the first record management computer program for swine production, which he sold on the open market. Gary also worked as a computer programmer for Pinsoft, LLC. over ten years. Chloe worked as a medical transcriptionist at Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe, WI, for over twenty years; retiring in January of 2012. Gary and Chloe enjoyed spending winters in San Diego with their daughter and her family and vacationing in Colorado, where they enjoyed hiking in the mountains, biking and canoeing. They looked forward to spoiling all of their grandchildren whenever visiting.

They are survived by one daughter: Krista (Scott) Kreil of San Diego, CA; one son: Bryan (Katie) Thoreson of Hudson, WI; five grandchildren: Kendra and Connor Kreil and Liam, Evelyn and Keira Thoreson; and one brother: Everett (Gail) Thoreson of rural South Wayne.

Chloe enjoyed sewing, painting for her grandchildren and dancing. Gary was an avid woodworker and enjoyed making furniture for his family. He recently took up an interest in photography.

Private funeral services will be held for family and friends on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Wiota Lutheran Church, 6682 State Road 78 in rural South Wayne with Rev. Luke S. Smetters officiating. Burial will be in East Wiota Cemetery in rural South Wayne. A private visitation will be held for family and friends on Friday, May 3, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wiota Lutheran Church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family.
