Frank L. Borowitz, age 77, of Janesville, passed away on Tuesday, July 26 at Mercy Hospital surrounded by his family.
Frank was born on February 28, 1939 in Columbus, OH, the son of Col. Frank P. and Margaret Borowitz. Following his graduation from high school, he received a full-ride football scholarship as a starting quarterback for Seattle Prep University. He broke his ankle before his first season and eventually followed in his father's footsteps and enlisted in the Air Force. He retired after 21 years of service, during which time he married Cheryl (Loveland) Borowitz and traveled around the world until he settled in Monroe with his family in 1978. While in Monroe, he managed Leisure Lanes and was very proud of his role in bringing live music to the community. Frank and Cheryl then moved to Denver, Colorado where Frank was able to live out his life long passion for horse racing as a track official at Arapahoe Park. They returned to Wisconsin in 2001 and settled in Janesville to be closer to their family.
Frank loved the Yankees and the Cowboys almost as much as he loved his two cats that he swore he would never have. He was known for his never-ending sass and stubbornness, as well as his wisdom and deep love and commitment to his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Frank is survived by his wife, Cheryl Borowitz of Janesville, and three children: Biff Borowitz (Brea Neaubauer), Jim Borowitz (Lisa Harrison) and Susan (Borowitz) Roberts. He is also survived by his sister Peggy Petersen (Alexandria, VA). He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Kira (Brett) Cowan, Kari (Rick) Cook, Alex and Nick Borowitz, and Meagan and Mitchell Roberts, as well as three great-grandchildren: Bryce and Aubree Cook, and Ruby Cowan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Col. Frank P. and Margaret Borowitz, as well as his second mother, Leona Loveland.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 1, 2016, at 5:00 p.m., at Faith Community Church, 2941 Lucerne Dr., Janesville, with Rev. Gary Shields officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friends and relatives are also invited to a graveside service with military honors on Tuesday, August 2, at 10:00 a.m., at Greenwood Cemetery, 1907 29th Avenue, Monroe. August 2 would have been Frank and Cheryl's 58th wedding anniversary. A memorial fund will be established in Frank's name. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
