Francis L. Neises, age 84, of Monroe, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Azura Memory Care.
Francis was born May 12, 1929 on his grandfather's birthday in Glen Haven, WI. He was the son of the late Sylvester and Josephine (Berntgen) Neises.
As a child his family relocated to Kenosha, WI where he attended St. Mark's Elementary School, Lincoln Junior High School and was a graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School (Class of 1947).
Francis entered active military duty on January 10, 1951 at Camp McCoy, WI. He served as a tank leader in the United States Army, stationed in Korea. He was honorably discharged on October 9, 1952. Fran was employed by the Kenosha News as a printer for more than 30 years. Upon retiring he moved back to the Berntgen homestead in Glen Haven, later moving to Monroe and residing with his niece (Jayne). He was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, Monroe. Fran loved gardening and the "Farm Living." His kindness and thoughtfulness brought joy to all who knew him.
Francis is survived by two brothers, Arnold (Dorothy) Neises of Monroe, Lawrence Neises of Kenosha; nieces and nephews, Laura Short of Monroe, Steven (Barbra) Neises of Arlington, South Dakota, Robert (Lori) Neises of Waconia, Minnesota, Jayne Neises of Monroe, Theresa (Jim) Talbert of Milton, Jeffery (Susan Engler) Neises of Monroe, Susan Marshall of Kenosha, Sandra (Mike) Muetzel of Elkhorn; great-nieces and nephews, Brett, Christine, Jaclyn, Jarred, Jeremy, Austin and Lauren. He is predeceased by his parents and sister-in-law, Rose (Mitchell) Neises. Per Fran's wishes, a Memorial Mass will be held at a later date in Glen Haven. A Memorial Fund is being established in Fran's memory.
