Frances Rostad

Frances Rostad, age 99 of Monroe, formerly of Brodhead, passed away April 30, 2011 at Harbor House in Monroe. Since 2001 she had been a resident of Harbor House.

She was born Frances Pearl Schrader on February 19th, 1912, in Brodhead, the daughter of Frank and Frieda Roenneburg Schrader. Frances attended Brodhead schools and graduated from High School in 1930. On July 14, 1937, in Freeport, Illinois, she married Merlin DeLyle Rostad of Orfordville. The couple lived in Brodhead all their lives.

A working wife and mother, Frances was employed as a switchboard operator at the Brodhead Telephone Company for over twenty years until conversion to a dial system in 1958. Later, she also worked as a bookkeeper at the former Goldenrod Creamery in Brodhead.

She and DeLyle were long-time members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brodhead. From 1970 to 1974, Frances was employed at the Church as the Office Secretary. She was also a member there of the Ruth Circle and had served as its Secretary-Treasurer.

In her later years, Frances cultivated a talent for and a life-long interest in art. She produced numerous paintings in acrylics, and as a member of the local Spectrum Art Club, her paintings were widely sold and exhibited.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne (Thomas) Pagel of Lake Delton; two grandchildren: Mark (Sandy) Olson of Lodi and Lori (Chris) Gentry of Sun Prairie; one nephew and two nieces.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 6, 2011 at Shriner Hager Gohlke funeral home, with Reverend Peder Johanson officiating. Burial be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1988, her son, Donald in 2007, and by two brothers, Willie as an infant in 1908 and Edwin in 2005.
