Evelyn Marie Moritz, age 93 of Glarner Lodge in New Glarus, formerly of Monticello, died on Sunday morning, June 2, 2013 at the New Glarus Home. Evelyn was born on November 24, 1919 to William & Lena (Thoman) Bidlingmaier in rural Monroe. She grew up in Washington Township, and went to the Purcell rural school. She lived with her grandmother in Monroe so she could attend high school, and during that time she was confirmed at the St. John's United Church of Christ and later graduated from the Monroe High School in 1937. She worked at the Swiss embroidery factory in New Glarus during WWII, and later worked as a book-keeper at Voegeli Chevrolet in Monticello. She was married to Delbert Moritz, and later they had a daughter, Becky. In later years she worked for Dr. Aquino in Monticello. In early years she was an active member of the Washington Reformation Church in rural Monticello, and later continued her work at the Zwingli United Church of Christ. She enjoyed working with the Sunday Schools, and singing in the church choirs. Evelyn was a member of the Friendship circle at Zwingli. She thoroughly enjoyed her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Hauser of New Glarus; four siblings, Dorothy (Dallas) Wild of Monroe, Shirley Anderson of New Glarus, Jean (Daryl) Kleckner of Monona, and Nathan Bidlingmaier of Brodhead; one brother-in-law, Herb Baumgartner of Monroe; three grandchildren, Amanda (Bob) Hannes of Shawano, Nic (Leah) Hauser of New Glarus, and Meredith (Jake) Koss of Oregon; and six great-grandchildren, Brady & Brynn Hannes, Avery, Zander, & Stella Hauser, and Eli Koss. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lorene Durtschi and Marian Baumgartner; and two brothers, Merlin as an infant and Sylvan Bidlingmaier; and a son-in-law Richard Hauser.
A visitation for Evelyn Moritz will be held on Thursday morning, June 6, 2013 from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at the church. Rev. Lawrence Balleine of that church will officiate. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery in Monticello. The Voegeli-Newcomer Funeral Home in Monticello is serving the family.
