Eugene E. Ellefson, age 68 of Monroe, died Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home following a short courageous battle with Leukemia.
Gene was born May 24, 1940 in Monroe, the son of George and Frances (Stubbe) Ellefson. He married Merikay Wilson on May 31, 1964 in Juda. He farmed on the Ellefson Home Farm in Jordan Township until 1982 then continued to work as a farmhand for Dave Minder. He loved to trout fish and spend time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening, tending to his flowers, John Deere tractors, and his Dodge Ram. Gene was an avid Green Bay Packer and NASCAR fan.
He is survived by his wife, Merikay Ellefson; a son, Greg (Sandy) Ellefson, all of Monroe; four sisters, Viola Fox of Browntown, Vera Block of Monroe, Carol (Elwood) Koch of Monticello, and Lyla (Herbert) Kraus of Monroe; three brothers, Robert (Joan) Ellefson of Monroe, Ralph (Carol) Ellefson of Orangeville, IL, and Gerald (Ella) Ellefson of Monroe; three step-grandchildren; nine step-greatgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gale, in 1966; his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Melvin and Hasel Wilson; a sister, Helen (Ray) Indergand; two brothers-in-law, Chester Block and Cecil Fox.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Rev. Lowell Stuessy officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
