On January 14, 1931 Eldon R. Halvorson was born at home in the township of Seymour, WI in Lafayette County to Herman and Myrtle Halvorson. On July 31, 2015 Eldon passed away at the VA Hospice Unit in Madison with family members by his side. Eldon graduated from Darlington High School in 1949. In high school he played football (tight end) and was involved in FFA for 4 years. Eldon entered the service in July 1952 and proudly served in the Korean War with the 1st Cavalry Division's 99th Field Artillery Battalion. He was stationed at Camp Chaffe, Ark., before being assigned in Japan. Eldon was honorably discharged in 1954. Eldon returned to Darlington where he married Janet Tregoning in 1957 and had a daughter and son. Eldon moved to Footville, WI and in 1979 married Phyllis Scott. They moved to the Monroe area in 1989. Eldon took up residence in Madison circa 1996. Eldon was an original do-it-yourselfer and enjoyed tinkering with and fixing anything he could get his hands on. He was an avid Packer and Badger fan, enjoyed playing billiards, eating out at new restaurants, and chatting it up with his neighbors. In his later years he spent much time listening to sporting events and audio books, and chatting it up with his neighbors. Anyone that encountered Eldon would describe him as a kind and gentle soul.
