Elaine M. Elmer, age 88, formerly of Monroe, died on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in Springfield, Illinois from dementia. Elaine was born on September 10, 1925 in Milwaukee to Peter and Mary Toldrian. She married Alvin Elmer in 1960 and moved to Monroe where they lived at 1903 7th St. and had three children: Gary (Diane) Elmer, Marcia (Larry Mattheakis) and Linda Elmer. She was a very loving and supportive wife to Al and mother to her children. Elaine was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ, volunteering in the "Clothes Closet" and in the office. She also volunteered at the Behring Senior Center and enjoyed working the polling station during elections. She spent her later years at St. John's Garden Apartments and Friedensheim.

As the dementia progressed, she moved about 1.5 years ago to Springfield, IL to be closer to her son. Elaine is survived by a sister, Joan DeMore, three grandchildren: Eleni and Michael Mattheakis of Cupertino, California and Rachel Elmer, of Springfield. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Al, on December 29, 1999, a sister, Veronica Szczewski and her parents. Condolences can be sent to the family to Linda Elmer, 1128 E. A memorial service, followed by a lunch at the church, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014 at 10:30 am at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1724 14th St., Monroe, WI 53566. Parking for the service will be available in the parking lot behind the church on 15th Street. All are invited to join in a celebration of Elaine's life on Cheese Days weekend.
