Elaine Cecile Neebel (nee: Gassman), of Lena, Illinois, passed away on January 1st, 2013. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends. Elaine was born on November 2nd, 1922 to the late Paul and Ella Gassman. She graduated from Pearl City High School and attended Brown Business College in Freeport, Illinois. On June 6th, 1942, she was united in marriage to Omer P. Neebel. They were married 47 years until Omer's death on January 23, 1990. Elaine and Omer farmed while raising 2 sons, Terry and Richard, before taking jobs in Stockton; Omer at Kraft and Elaine at the Kent and Stockton Banks. They moved to Stockton in 1974 and took pride in caring for their house.
Elaine was active in church activities at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Lena, Illinois, WA-TAN-YE Service Organization in Stockton and was one who helped establish bringing AFS to Stockton H.S. Elaine loved doing crafts and with her love of quilting, made many beautiful quilts for others. She took continuing education classes and had a love of history and heritage. She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother to her 2 granddaughters and 6 great-grandchildren.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Ella and Paul Gassman, an infant brother Paul Jr., husband Omer, and nephew Michael Gerke.
Elaine will be sadly missed by her sons, Terry (Ronna) of Monroe, WI, and Richard (Susan) of Appleton, WI and their children, Jennifer (Jeff) Eickelberg, Combined Locks, WI, and Kathryn (Rich) Tegge, Appleton, WI, and great-grandchildren, Joren & Edison Eickelberg and Juliana, Amelia, Carolyn and Sophia Tegge.
Elaine is also survived by her siblings Ardith Kitner and James (Ruth) Gassman all of Lena, IL, Patricia (Carl) Smith, Freeport, IL, Paula (Joseph) Gerke, Kent, IL and sister-in-law Leona (John) Chapman, Rockford, IL. She is further survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Salem United Church of Christ, 8491 West Salem Road, Lena, Illinois 61048, on Monday, January 7th, 2013 at 10:30 a.m., Pastor Randal Nicholas officiating. Visitation will be before the service at the church, starting at 9:30 a.m.
