Duane W. Elmer

Duane W. Elmer, age 71 of Monroe, died on Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born on August 27, 1940, in Monroe the son of Weston and Selma (Blum) Elmer. He attended Green County rural schools and was a 1958 graduate of Monroe High School. He served with the Wisconsin National Guard for 3 years. Duane and Judith Whitehead were married in Monroe in 1959. He farmed in the Argyle, Juda and Belleville areas throughout his life. Duane enjoyed bowling and especially playing a good game of cards.

Surviving are his children; Stuart D. Elmer of Verona, Valerie D. Elmer of Madison; 2 grandchildren; brother, Dwight (Donna) Elmer of Monroe; and sister, Diana Prien of Monroe, also several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; former wife, Judith; brother, Daniel Elmer in 1955; and brother-in-law, Gordon Prien.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe, with Rev. Paul E. Gregersen officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to Pleasant View Nursing Home in Duane's memory. The Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is serving the family.
