NEW GLARUS - Doris Crossgrove Hoesly passed away on January 16, 2009 at age 85 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital, Monroe, WI. The daughter of the late Genevieve (Jenny) and Samuel Crossgrove, she was born on April 27, 1923. She was raised on a dairy farm east of Unity, Wisconsin. She attended Enterprise Grade School and in 1939 she graduated from Unity High School. She attended Stevens Point Teacher's College later receiving a B.A. degree in elementary education from Platteville Teacher's College in 1966. She taught school for 30 years, two years in Alexander School in Whitewater, WI, four years at Enterprise School in Unity, WI and 24 years at Monticello Grade School, Monticello, WI.

She married Gilbert M. Hoesly on June 26, 1948 at the Unity Methodist Church. She was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ, Ladies Aid, Alpine Club, Green County Retired Educators, Delta Kappa Gamma-Alpha Mu Chapter.

After her retirement from teaching, she worked as a cashier at the Swiss Historical Village for a few years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Victor Crossgrove, and her husband, Gilbert.

She is survived by one son, Steven Hoesly, San Jose, CA; a daughter, Mary (John) Byrne, Oconomowoc, WI; a stepson, David Hoesly, Gastonia, NC; a stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Marcus, Sequim, WA; a grandson, Mitchell McGraw, Sun Prairie, WI; five step-grandchildren, Nina Haggerty, Denver, CO, John Byrne Jr., Milwaukee, WI, Brian Byrne, Wauwatosa, WI, Erin Byrne, Milwaukee, WI and Patrick Byrne, Oconomowoc, WI; and one step-great-granddaughter, Adrienne Haggerty Hill, Denver, CO.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Avenue, New Glarus, WI.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 5th Ave. and First St., New Glarus, WI, with the Reverend John Jewell and Pastor Petra Streiff officiating. Burial will be in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any contributions be made to the Swiss United Church of Christ.
