DARLINGTON - Dr. Donald W. Schulz, age 96 of Darlington, WI, died peacefully on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Attic Angels in Madison, WI. He was born on July 27, 1918 in Madison to the late Norma (Jauch) Schulz and Walter Schulz who were at that time living in Sun Prairie, WI. At age three, Don, his brother Bill, and their family moved to Darlington where he attended grade school. He graduated from high school in June of 1937. In the fall of 1937, Don entered UW-Madison and graduated with a degree in Pharmacy in 1942. Schulz's military service sent him first to Camp Grant, IL for basic training and then to Hawaii, where he worked as a ward man at the North Sector General Hospital, Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii. He returned to Camp Grant to form the 101st General Hospital. While re-training there, he received an acceptance to the U of Oregon Dental School, Portland, Oregon. He later transferred to Marquette University Dental School and graduated in February 1948. Dr. Don returned to Darlington to practice Dentistry that same year and continued for the next 35 years, retiring in May of 1983. In December of 1944, Don was united in marriage to Betty Denkmann of Davenport, Iowa. On December 7, 1949, Don and Betty were blessed with a son, Lawrence Walter Schulz. On October 11, 1969, he married Ethel E. Doyle of Shullsburg, WI. During his professional years, Dr. Don served as President of the Southwestern Dental Association and for several years as delegate to the State Meetings and on other various committees relating to the Association. In service to the community, he was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club, Darlington Chamber of Commerce, and Darlington Country Club. He was also a Cub Scout Master, a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank, and a member of Zor Shrine. Don had many interests but probably music and golf were his favorites. He was an avid Packer fan, having season tickets for many years. His true passion came later in life with the birth of his two grandsons. He loved to share stories, photos and updates of the boys with anyone and everyone who was willing to listen. He attended many sporting activities as often as possible when his shining stars were playing.
