Donald Arthur Holcomb, 76, Phillips, Town of Harmony, died at his home on Tuesday, May 13. He was born in Monticello, Wisconsin, on May 5, 1932, the son of Arthur and Margaret (Brunner) Holcomb. He served his country in the United States Air Force as a Tech Sergeant, a career that included action in the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War. He retired from the Air Force in 1971 after 20 years of service. He was then employed by Monroe Cheese Corporation, then served as mail carrier in Monroe for 7 years, and then for 10 years worked as a milk hauler for Roy's Dairy until the time of his retirement. He was married to Sharon Hintz and they had two children, Daniel and Shirley; he was then married to Gayle Grimm and they had two children, Dennis and Julie. He and Marilyn moved to the Town of Harmony on July 17, 1992, and were married in Monroe, Wisconsin, on February 14, 1994. He was a member of the Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars, and in his free time enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; by four children, Daniel (Debra), De Forest, WI, Shirley (Curt) Soddy, Browntown, WI, Dennis, Monroe, WI, and Julie (Tim) Phillipson, Arygle, WI; by four step-children, Carol (Richard) Long, Platteville, Dennis (Michelle) Benson, Monticello, Jerry (Sherrie) Benson, New Glarus, WI, and Terri Lynne Benson, Monroe, WI; by 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; by one brother, Ronald (Judy), Monticello, WI; and by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 19, at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips with Pastor Sandra E. Hamilton of the United Methodist Church officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Veteran's Affairs Honors Team from Spooner. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Monday.
