PEARL CITY, Ill. - Delbert E. Nowak, 80, of Pearl City, died Sunday July 26, 2009 at Freeport Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Freeport. Born on July 13, 1929, he is the son of Frantz and Mabel (Althoff) Nowak.

Delbert married LuEllen Spedding on Aug. 19, 1951 in Freeport. He was a retired construction worker.

Surviving are his son, Keith (Cathy) Nowak of Pearl City; two daughters, Cindy Koester of Freeport and Sara (Ralph) Lucas of Lena; 6 grandchildren, Caitlin Miller, Logan Koester, Matthew (Sarah) McDearmon, Sarah (Robert) Kuhlemeier, Luke McDearmon, and Brett Lucas; and two great-grandchildren, Alexzander McDearmon and Kendra Kuhlemeier. He is preceded in death by his parents in 1974, and his wife on Feb. 12, 2001.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday July 30, 2009 at the Offenheiser-Schwarz Funeral Home in Pearl City with Rev. Rick Bader of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lena officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established in his memory.
