MILTON - Dr. Debra S. Malewicki, Ph.D., age 55, of rural Milton, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, May 9, 2010 at her home, surrounded by her closest family. She was born July 23, 1954 in Monroe, WI, the daughter of Raymond and Dorothy (Youngwith) Miskimon. She was a graduate of South Beloit, IL High School, received her Bachelor's Degree in English from East Texas State University, Commerce, TX, her Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and was most recently awarded her Ph.D. in Marketing and Entrepreneurship from the University of Illinois-Chicago. She held many professional roles at UW-Whitewater specializing in entrepreneurship and innovation over the last 25 years. Most recently she served as an Assistant Professor of Management in the College of Business and Economics. Among her many professional accomplishments she was instrumental in establishing a new Major of Entrepreneurship within the College.
On May 22, 1987 she married Robert A. Malewicki at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, WI. They have been sharing wonderful conversations and traveling the world together for the last 23 years. She was very proud of her two children, Ryan and Marissa, and her son-in-law, Sean, and loved nothing more than spending time with them. Her home was her sanctuary, where she could relax and enjoy her family and pets.
She is survived by her husband, Rob; her 2 children, Ryan Knox, of Milwaukee, WI, and Marissa (Sean) O'Malley, of Chicago, IL; her mother, Dorothy (Mel) Sewell, of Milton; her 2 sisters, Jan Lewis, of Topeka, KS, Mindy Julius, of Winslow, IL; parents-in-law, Binnie and Bob Malewicki, of East Troy, WI; her grandson due in July, Kellan Robert O'Malley, and by many other extended family, friends and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Miskimon.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Debra's life will be held at noon on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 335 Dairyland Dr., Milton, WI, with Pastor Matthew Powell officiating. Friends, family and colleagues may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the CHURCH.
In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, the family requests that donations be made to the UW-Whitewater Foundation and marked for the "Entrepreneurship Program." This account will be used to fund the Debra Malewicki Entrepreneurship Scholarship for future students.
