David Lee Dowden, 85, of Albany passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at his home. He was born on July 16, 1931 to Lanclot and Johanna (Elfering) Dowden in Libertyville, IL. David was united in marriage to Dorathy Lainio on June 26, 1954 in Waukegan, IL.
David attended high school in Libertyville, IL. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1954. He worked as a construction mason; and later moved to Wisconsin and began dairy farming. He also worked at the Albany Recycling Center for the past 13 years. David was a member of the McDermot-Steindorf American Legion Post #144 in Albany, Albany Lions Club, and served on the Recycling Board and Planning Commission.
David is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dody of Albany; children, Denise M. (Randy) Riese of Monroe, WI, David (Nancy) Dowden of Adams, WI, D. Lynn Novak of Algoma, WI, Dorathy (Griff) Williams of Wausau, WI, Daniel (Kathy) Dowden of Walworth, WI, and Don (Svetlana) Dowden of Houston, TX; 16 grandchildren, Stephanie, Ashley (Joseph), Amanda (Aaron), Adam (Heather), Brad, David (Kelly), Doug, Jessica (Luke), Griff, Michael (Caitlin), Hamilton (Megan), Kimberly (Dave), Steven (Ali), Nickolas, Maxim, and Alexander; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth (John) Cullian of Elgin, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack; and two sisters, Gladys Thickpenny and Patsy Blythe.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Albany with Father Mick Moon officiating. Burial will follow services in the English Settlement Cemetery in Albany. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 4:00-7:00p.m at the SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home. Continued visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00a.m. until the time of service, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in David's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
