Clara Mae "Sis" Zimmerman, age 86 of Monroe, passed away at Monroe Clinic Hospital, Wednesday, February 4, 2009, due to complications of diabetes. She was born on August 4, 1922, the daughter of August F. and Mathilda (Hellwig) Gutzmer in rural Warren, IL.
Clara was married to Morlin L. "Morey" Zimmerman at Peace Church, Browntown, on December 30, 1961 by Rev. Showalter. She was confirmed and married at Peace Church.
Clara was employed at Pilgrim and Country Kitchens, Oaktron Industries and Swiss Colony.
She was a member of McConnell American Legion Post 1225 Auxiliary and Illinois Rural Mail Carriers Association Auxiliary.
Clara loved to cook and bake, especially for others having had to learn since her mother passed when she was just 17 years old. She was famous for her Zimmerman pickles recipe, loved to camp and do lottery crosswords, she always said it helped to sharpen her mind as she laid in the hospital bed in nursing homes and at home, loved Casino trips. She looked forward every year to the annual Gutzmer reunion but most of all she loved her family and her pets over the years.
Clara was a patient of Doctor James Stormont for 50 years under his tender loving medical care, she survived many illnesses.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years Morlin "Morey" and daughter Lisa and much beloved four cats; God children Mary Andreas and Kevin Krupke.
She was preceded in death by her father August in 1962; mother Mathilda in 1939 and brother Raymond in 1953.
Memorial services will be held at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME, 1455 Mansion Dr., Monroe at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 with Pastor Tim DeVries and Pastor David Mann co-officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2009 at the funeral home.
A memorial fund is being established.
