Clara J. McCarthy age 94 of Darlington, WI, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. She was born March 30, 1916 in Fayette Township in Lafayette County, WI, the daughter of John and Nellie (Hanson) Homb. Clara lived in Darlington her entire life. She was united in marriage to Robert E. McCarthy on February 15, 1939 in Dubuque, IA. Clara worked for her uncle and aunt, Fred and Anna Wenger, on their farm for a short time and later at the Darlington Hotel as a waitress.
Clara is survived by four nieces: Ardith Kundert and Barbara (Ronald) Komprood both of Darlington, Connie (Eric) Vogel of Elkhorn, WI, and Ann (Carl Malizio) Homb of Madison, WI; many great-nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband: Robert on September 3, 1991; one brother: Milford Homb; and one sister: Mayetta Troy Swenson.
Clara was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and its Women of ELCA. She was a past member of Darlington Country Club, Darlington Garden Club, and Badger Roofing Bowling team. Clara enjoyed spending her winters in West Palm Beach, FL.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at 1:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church 1302 Clay Street in Darlington with Rev. Carol Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church.
